Pitara range

The brief was to create a tableware range in wood and an Indian traditional craft for the Diwali festive season. The range had to be economical and easy to manufacture. This range was going to feature in Baaya's product catalogue for future manufacturing

The form is based on the shape of a ‘diya’, a significant element of the Diwali festival. The form is kept simple so it can be realized through router cutting. The intricate patterns and color of brass pitara sheets create a lavish contrast with the plain teak-wood forms, making it stand out.

Embossed thin sheets of brass, usually 34 gauge, made by hammering over patterned dyes.

The form is designed to be router-friendly to ease the mass manufacturing process.

Crafts used

I designed the entire range using realistic renders created with actual pitara sheet textures and teak wood swatches to achieve a lifelike finish. I also prepared detailed specification sheets for each product, ready for direct use in production.
