Lilo
Designed, prototyped, and produced a baby seat for bicycles as part of my graduation project internship at GreenDriveIndia

LILO is a detachable bike seat for young children. It is designed to safely transport babies up to 4 years old. The goal is to provide both the child and the parent with a thrilling and exciting ride. Lilo facilitates interaction between the child and parent while enabling you to get a good workout in a fun way.

The most enjoyable experience for the parent and child is to place the seat at the front of the rider. This way, the child can observe the ride while the parent can supervise their child and converse with them.

Form progression

The idea was to create a straightforward, aesthetically pleasing, and cost-effective design that is easy to manufacture. Starting with a basic L-shape seat, the form evolved into a seat with armrests, backrest, and foot
covers for the child's safety. The entire piece is crafted from FRP (fibre reinforced plastic) and made in a single mold.

The seat can be detached when not in use by merely taking out the locking bolt and pulling out the seat. The front assembly can remain on the front rod of the cycle even without the seat, making it simpler to attach the seat the next time.
Production bikes have a headset rod with a diameter ranging from 2.3cm to 3.2cm. The V-Clamp is the most suitable way to secure any rod. It has an angle of 120 degrees and can hold any rod from 2cm to 3.5cm in diameter.

The FRP seat with the assembly is able to hold more than 38kgs of weight without bending. Given the average weight of a 4 year old is 18kgs, the seat can easily hold twice as much weight. The spaced-out design of the chair’s legs stops the child's legs from slipping into the tyres of the bike.
