Archeon The Battle of Tessera, derived from the Greek word Archon meaning "supreme ruler" and tessera meaning "4", allows for a maximum of four players but can be enjoyed with as few as two. Each player has their own 10-by-3 grid called “territory”, that surrounds a 10-by-10 battlefield. The goal of the game is to eliminate the other players by killing their King and Prince or by converting their King with the Monk. Once all other territories have been destroyed, the victor is crowned the Archeon, the supreme ruler of the world!

Archeon

The King, guardian of

the land, can only take

one step in any direction

per turn.

King

The Queen, the most

formidable entity of the

game, is able to traverse

any number of blocks in

any direction.

Queen

Inheriting the capabilities of his parents, the Prince can move horizontally and vertically like the King and any squares diagonally like the Queen. If the original King is defeated, the Prince ascends to the throne.

Prince

The Monk is a dark wizard.

Being the master of dark

sorcery, he possesses the power of converting any enemy to fight by his side. Although unable to to eliminate enemies, the Monk can still be a game changer.

Monk

The Rook, a powerful guardian of the King, is

capable of traversing any

number of blocks in either horizontal or vertical directions.

Modified rules

  • The Monk can traverse up to two blocks in any direction and has a conversion range of the same length. It can convert other pieces even if they are in between the Monk and the target. However, if the intended victim is already under the spell of another Monk, it cannot be changed.

  • If the checkmate is executed by a Monk, all of the surviving pieces belonging to that player will be converted to the Monk who launched the attack.

  • When the Monk converts a piece, a colored Ring is fixed to the bottom of any piece that has been transformed, displaying which player it belongs to.

  • Should the Prince remain alive, it can ascend to the throne when the original King is eliminated. Nevertheless, the transformation will occur at the Prince's present location.

  • Similarly to the Pawns, the Soldiers can be promoted to Queen, Monk, Knight, or Rook should they reach the opposite side of the board.

  • When a competitor is defeated, their remaining pieces stay on the board as ruins. These can later be converted using a Monk.

  • Players may form alliances, however, they will eventually have to battle each other as there can only be one victor.

  • The territories are not applicable when two people are playing; in this case, the board is folded up and only the battlefield is used.

These caps fit at the bottom of the pieces once they are converted by the Monk.
